Top Tips for Your Funding Applications
Arts grants are a fantastic way to fund your music career because, unlike loans, you usually don't have to pay the money back!
However, these grants are competitive. You need to prove you deserve the money and show the funder exactly how you plan to use it.
Here’s how to give yourself the best chance:
- Stop Blanket Applications: Don't just send out the same generic application everywhere. Before you start writing, make sure you meet all the eligibility requirements for that specific grant.
- Understand the Funder: Figure out what the grant provider is truly looking for. Tailor your application to their mission and goals.
- Keep it Simple: Use clear, easy-to-understand language. The people reading your application shouldn't be confused. Make it crystal clear why you deserve the funding.
- Proofread Everything: Take your time and check everything over. Make sure your application meets every single requirement before you send it off.
Quick Application Checklist
- Provide EVERYTHING the form is asking for.
- Plan and detail exactly what you will use the funds for.
- Organise your artist documents (bios, photos, and music files) and have them ready in the correct formats for uploading.
Receiving funding can be a tough, competitive process, but it can lead to amazing opportunities to keep making music. Don't get discouraged if you don't receive a grant and remember there are many talented artists applying.
